1/22 Buffalo Run Half Marathon & 5K
This ultimate half-marathon course is a very challenging, hilly course on the East End of Catalina Island. 2/5-4/30 The Boys in Blue: Cubs Spring Training on Catalina Island, 1921-1951
Perhaps no professional sports team in America is more beloved than the Chicago Cubs. Affectionately nicknamed “The Boys in Blue”, the Cubs have not won the World Series in 106 years – the longest championship drought of any North American sports team. Despite this, “The Cubbies” remain “loveable losers” and in an age when professional sports are rife with scandal, the Cubs claim some of the most devoted fans in all of baseball. “The Boys in Blue” presents the Catalina Island Museum’s extensive collection of Cubs’ programs, rosters, uniforms, film footage and photographs. Born to an emotionally unstable mother, uncertain of her father’s identity and shuffled off to live in the homes of relatives, an orphanage and a succession of foster homes, the early life of Norma Jeane Baker is hardly the background expected of one of the screen’s most enduring legends. “Before She Was Marilyn” represents the first major exhibition documenting the early life of Marilyn Monroe, and exhibits for the first time photographs from not only the Catalina Island Museum’s own archive but from archives throughout the U.S. Candid and often disturbing, the exhibition examines in detail the year Norma Jeane spent on Catalina Island.
