Hints And Ideas

Before you go

Even for a one day trip, a little planning can make the difference between a good experience and a great experience. Making reservations is our best advice. If you're going to Catalina Island for just the day, reservations on the Catalina Flyer should be all you need. If an activity is important to you, it might help to call them and see what the say about reservations. Groups, Meetings and Special Events should be planned and reserved for every activity you would like to do. The Catalina Island Visitors Bureau has an informative booklet that they would be glad to send to you. Call 310-510 1520 for the booklet.

For a trip longer than one day, be sure to make hotel reservations "VERY EARLY". After you have confirmed hotel reservations, give us a call for your boat reservations (949-673-5245).

On The Boat

Dress casually and it's a good idea to dress in layers, depending on the time of year. Spring and fall can be a little chilly on the boat ride back. On the boat ride over to Catalina is a good time to purchase tickets for the tours on the island. Some times the tour you want will be sold out when you get to the island. There are lockers in Avalon to store any extras you might have with you.

On The Island

First of all, its time to take it easy. The town is about one square mile in size. Everything is within walking distance and walking is the main activity on Catalina.

This is what I recommend for a one day stay on the island. First - take one of the city tours. This gives you a good idea of what's there and what you might want to see or do. After that you might want to take more of the tours (check out the combo tours), rent a golf cart to go out on your own or try some of the many activities available to you on the island.

If you think Catalina Island might make a great place to spend a few days (it is), check out a few of the hotels.
Be sure to save some time to do a little shopping. Avalon has some unique shops and stores in it.
Adjust your plans to how busy the town is. Restaurants, tours and attractions can be very busy on some days.

And remember, whether you like a very active time or a very relaxed time (or some where in between) you'll find it on Catalina Island.
